I was looking at a post and it reminded me of my first hospital urologist appointment. It was a very thorough invasive examination.
I arrived for the appointment using my wheelchair and wearing a high cappacity diaper. I can't remember the make but it was big and bulky green in colour with tapes at the side.
It was summer so I was wearing shorts. I was asked to transfer onto the table from the wheelchair and remove my shorts. I did this behind the curtain but left my diaper in place. The doctor came in and looked me over and started pressing and feeling my stomach while asking some questions. Not telling me what he was about to do he grabbed the tapes on my diaper and pulled them apart and exposed me completely. He then handled my penis and testicles and had a good look asking when I had got circumcised was it as an infant or not. He then helped me on my side and inserted a gloved finger with lube on it up my rectal passage and massaged my prostate which was not unpleasant and I started to get a bit hard. He noted this and said could I still ejaculate which I replied yes.
This finished and he said I want you to have a urine flow test a blood test ultasound and we need to have a seamen sample. I asked how would we get the seamen sample expecting the obvious way and in private but he said he would send his assistant in to sort it out. I heard him taking to someone behind the curtain then a younger man came thru with a pair of gloves and a shallow plastic dish. He put the gloves on and helped me on to my side again. He put some lube on his gloved finger and also up my rectum and went up and pushed against my prostate. I got very hard and he gave me the dish and asked me to relax and hold the dish at the end of my penis. After about a minute I started to drip a clear stringy liquid into the dish. I was amazed at how much came out and very embarased about the whole thing. He took the dish and told me he would send someone in to help to go for the flow test. A nurse came in an between us re arranged my diaper and pulled my shorts up. She helped me into chair and said lets go for the flow test. I said that might not work as I have just flooded my nappy. We went anyway but it was no use. I then had the blood test and a few days later the ultrasound which confirmed the retenshion. Intermittent Cath was done for a while then foley and now SP. All in all I have had a lot of embarasing situations with the Foley catheter changes and stuff but nothing like that first appointment when 2 men had a finger up you know where in the space of 10 minutes an erection followed by seamen collection and a nurse putting my diaper on then helping me stand up over a strange looking toilet while I try to do a wee then her again helping me pull up a wet diaper. Just wondering if any one can match this and would be willing to share.

The most embarrassed I have been was during pelvic floor training when I had to demonstrate performing a Kegel and transabdominal exercise while my female therapist held her gloved finger up my anus.

However, your story takes the cake! Wow, I cannot imaging that happening without having advance warning to get used to the idea.

I think if that was me going through that, I would either have been arrested for murder or at least for punching the assistent.

Well I have been informed that for my upcoming urodynamics, they'll put a probe in my behind to see the pressure building up while they are filling my bladder.

Unfortunately my appointment have been postponed until the end of October. So now I can spend even more time fantaziing about what's going to happen..

Anyway @4wheeldave I'm truly sorry to hear about what you had to undergo....you have my deepest sympathy...I hope it was a one off investigation you had to undergo.

At least I can assure you that the rectal probe used during your urodynamics test is relatively small and will not be uncomfortable.

Because of some complications caused by my pelvic nerve trauma my tech took quite a bit longer than usual during my urodynamics tests. It could have been a very embarrassing situation as I had the female tech "fondling" my penis for about an hour. However, she was totally professional and really defused a potentially stressful situation. Later, I was able to joke about it.

As I had an inflamed and slightly enlarged prostate, the only uncomfortable moments were when the catheters had to pass through the narrowed channel through the prostate.

It helps to read about the procedure to be better informed as to what will happen, but I would not worry about it (I admit that I did worry about it).

I found it to be a relief to get the results of the tests in order to better understand what was happening.

Yes i hope it goes well in October. I personally have never had that particular test so can't offer any advice about. It's amazing really most tests we go through are never as bad as we think they will be.I am glad in a way I did not know before hand what would happen at that first appointment because I would have been freaked out for weeks before hand.

I have had similar experiences several times. Once, when my female urologist and her nurse did the deed, another time when my male urologist was trying to find the cause of my sphincter/vesicle dyssynergia. On another memorable occasion, a chief resident supervised several medical students and interns as they did an EMG, inserting needles into numerous muscles from my feet to my scalp, and every place in between, and recording the computer readings for the muscles that worked, and those that didn't.

My most memorable, frightening, and embarrassing medical exam was a spinal tap in an interior basement room, during which all of the lights went out. The neurologist doing the exam, a lady, let out a stream of expleltives worthy of a sailor, and told me not to move. I was naked for more than an hour, the needle still in my spine, while folks slammed doors and, yelling, ran up and down the hall outside. When she finally removed the needle, there was no way I could put my diaper on unassisted, or dress myself. She was furious. She said that the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) folks had cut off the electricity to the animal lab upstairs, and, thus, also to that wing of the hospital. She said that numerous senior medical projects and faculty research projects had been ruined, but I never saw it in the papers, even though I looked. Driving home in rush hour traffic that evening was excruciating.
