This is in the "gripe" category....

Altho I wear cloth diapers most of the time, the summer heat has me wearing disposables for a "break" as they are much less bulky than a cloth diaper and disappear under shorts, good attire for a steamy day.

I've had instances of finding diaper fluff on my floor at home.....after a diaper has been on for several hours, the padding starts to shed and I find white bits of fluff on the floor, which can be wet or dry bits of fluff. Finding diaper fluff on the floor in the privacy of my home is no problem.

What prompted this post was the discovery of diaper fluff on the floor at a friends house....I did not realize I was "shedding" until I spotted a tell-tell white chunk on the floor and I picked up my bits of fluff as inconspicuously as possible. I couldn't help think how the conversation would go if my friend had seen the fluff first......he is not aware of my situation as I don't share my incon issue.

I know the first thing some of you will say is "well, that's why you should be wearing plastic pants!"

But...but....but, I will counter, I am wearing a disposable to beat the heat! I don't want to wear plastic pants!

I am wondering if others have experienced this and is only the "economy" diapers that break apart like this? I do wear the "economy" diapers as I can change when wet enough and with the heat and sweating and all, minor wetness leaks are not noticeable, but leaving white chunks of diaper fluff on the floor is very noticeable!

The fluff comes from the back wings. As you walk, the diaper gets worked and the fluff in the wrap around part of the rear wing can break up. And if the diaper construction fails....the inner and outer bonding at the rear leg opening.... which is what happens with the movement....then fluff falls out and drops to the floor.....<sigh>

Soooo....wear a better diaper (higher cost!) or perhaps a boxer brief (cotton underwear with the short legs that hug your thighs).

I wear Abena pullups and never have a problem. A couple of times I've run out and had to buy cheapies from the drugstore. I haven't had dry fluff fall out but I have found wet fluff in my underwear (I wear briefs - tighty whiteys) outside them. Not only that, I find when the fluff in a cheap diaper gets wet it tends to fall to the crotch, making a big wad and leaving you unprotected if you happen to be "pointed in the wrong direction" and let loose.

I'd go for the better quality, especially since you wear cloth most of the time. I'd like to try cloth but that would require a diaper pail and I'd just as soon not have that around the house, especially with the kids who don't really know the extent of the problem.

This has happened with putting to much moisture barrier cream on. It ate the bonding adhesive.

Thanks, Folks, for your replies. Tho I was "complaining" about poor diaper performance, I am talking about the store brand el cheapos and we all know not to expect too much from them. But my discovery may alert others to the potential of shedding fluff and it could be embarrassing trying to explain the white clumps showing up on the rug in a friend's house.

I have had it too. The padding in the diaper just falls apart. In hot weather it's worse. The Abenas are the worst to fall apart
